Carla Scott Fullerton - Jeremie Gindre

Every friend of my friend is my friend (part 1). Scott Fullerton's 'Every which way' sculptures reflect - through hard and sharp materials, like steel and reinforced glass - on the fragility and ambiguity of our vision and point of view. Gindre's 'Les Companions' takes on the challenge to build precise, geometric cubes with round-stones, composing a family of manufacturate boulders.
Invited by Norma Mangione, Chert proposes an exhibition of two artists represented by the gallery: Carla Scott Fullerton and Jérémie Gindre. The exhibition tries to trace the similarities and differences in the work of these two young artists, who appreciate each others research.
Carla Scott Fullerton's "Every which way" sculptures reflect - through hard and sharp materials, like steel and reinforced glass - on the fragility and ambiguity of our vision and point of view. The hardness of the materials is reflected in the shapes the artist uses: very straight, sharp images. On the other hand, Jérémie Gindre's "Les Companions" takes on the challenge to build precise, geometric cubes with round-stones, composing a family of manufacturate boulders. The curious result shifts willfully between something natural and artificial.
In the smaller room of Mangione gallery we focus on the paper production of the two artists. Here Scott Fullerton's cement drawings, etchings and geometric collages contrast with the curves and soft, black lines of Gindre's drawings - always very attentive, light and comic-book-like in style.
To sum up, artists can have a lot to share, and so do galleries. It is a mutual appreciation of each others work, as ironically reflected in the exhibition title, which is at the core of the exchange, whose second part will happen in Berlin in January, where Norma Mangione will take over the space of Chert gallery for one month time.
Carla Scott Fullerton was born in 1980 in Glasgow, where she lives and works. In concomitance with her show at Norma Mangione gallery, the artist will also have a solo exhibition at David Dale gallery, Glasgow (September 2012).

Jérémie Gindre was born in 1978 in Geneva, where he lives and works.
