To the certain extent, the artist is dealing with the conflict of time, where the present is lived trough its very absence and exists only as a mere instrument for the “better” tomorrow. This alienated reality of not living in a proper time has been additionally underlined by the recent global crises. The present is seen as a required sacrifice for better days to come and therefor, deprived of its present value. Everything is observed trough the perspective of investment, while incessantly delaying a moment of its achievement. Thus, one remains unaware of the actual condition, for it is perceived as temporary phase that is nearly over and for which one is about to be abundantly reworded. The ‘better tomorrow’ remains, somehow, always one step ahead, leaving only the endless promises of utopian destiny.

The newspapers remain outdated along with their analytical texts of what to do in order to achieve this craving prosperity. And while all the possible ‘futures’ are pilling up in the living rooms, the actual state remains unchanged. Still, while this phenomenon remains globally present, people continue to aspire the promised prosperity of the others. Thus, the grass is always brighter on the other side.

Parallel to this notion of attained future, one is given all the possible means to understand better its own condition. In order to do so, a person doesn’t even need to think. Only thing one needs is to fallow the simple “tips” or buy the right books. All one has to do is simply to click on the right website, read the instructions and apply it. By doing so, one can join millions of other happy consumers and forget all about own unpleasant reality.
Tomorrow, a fresh new Future Promises will come along and people can indulge once more in their beloved amnesia.

In a performance, 100% made in Italy (2012), the artist sells or better to say, gives away, the amulets of Italian future to the Serbian people. During past years, she collected a large amount of the Italian newspaper clippings while depriving them of their contexts. The only thing preserved is the word itself: ‘futuro’ (the future). The cuttings were then put inside the small transparent boxes, in the form of amulets. They were not given a fixed price, but rather sold for a price offered by the buyer.
Photographic series, Only one click to your happiness (2012), is the collection of old, black and white photographies found on flee markets. On each one is typed one of the instructions, found on Internet, for obtaining an an instantly better life or understanding the present one.. The ‘popular’ vintage style along whit the typewriter is deliberately used, for it is one of the most used tricks of an ‘alternative’ marketing.

Nataša Vasiljević, 1984, works and lives in Belgrade. She obtained an MA and BA in Visual Arts at the IUAV University of Venice. Her works and installations employ diverse media such as photography, video and film. An important element in her practice lies in the interest for memory and its hidden parts along for processes of time and space experience. Lately she exhibited in important foundations and institutions in Italy and abroad such as: Fondazione Gervasuti, Venice; Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa, Venice; East China Normal University, Shanghai; Neon-campobase, Bologna.
