Both artists are closely collaborating in this joint exhibition; space is shared and artworks sit intimately next to each other. While Sigrid Stabel chooses to show a video projection Kathrin Boehm's ongoing and millions and millions poster work acts as a still frame surrounding Stabels work.
Both artists are closely collaborating in this joint exhibition; space is
shared and artworks sit intimately next to each other. While Sigrid Stabel
chooses to show a video projection Kathrin Boehm's ongoing and millions and
millions poster work acts as a still frame surrounding Stabels work. Kathrin
Boehm who is well known for her past public installations like Mobile Porch
and cut&paste often in collaboration with architects and designers is
exhibiting her personal series of work at VTO. Boehm has worked for many
years on drawings and found imagery that is later constructed into large
maps and structures incorporating the whole architecture of the space. Her
most recent exhibition was at the Bloomberg Space in London with the title
'Pavilion'.
One of Boehm's ongoing collaborative projects is a consulation and design
project for Gasworks Gallery London. During the summer 2002 Kathrin Boehm
and Architect Andreas Lang examined through a series of on site events how
Gasworks Gallery is known, perceived and used by its audiences and how its
programme acts/interacts within the local context of Oval, Lambeth. The
observations and experience compiled in a catalogue of proposals
(www.layout-gasworks.net) and will lead to the architectural redevelopment
of the ground floor and the public gallery space in late 2003.
Sigrid Stabel works in media comprising sculpture, videos and installation.
Her work brings to the surface magical occurrences in everyday life. In her
findings through the use of small interventions she creates different
narratives and images sometimes by animating her own photography thereby
bringing the theme back to movement and life. This revival of an object
draws the viewer into a parallel world ruled by magic and imagination.
At VTO Sigrid Stabel will present her latest video animation; a large
photograph of a house facade printed onto fabric that is being animated by a
projection. The art-deco house is revived and different narratives start to
develop.
A second work by Sigrid Stabel depicts an etching by Doré of a stag mirrored
in a forest lake. The stag is spellbound by his own image. The stag's
self-absorption is utilised by the artist as a metaphor for self-knowledge.
