Second edition of the Central and Eastern Europe's emerging contemporary art fair. A series of related art events will be organized throughout the city during the week of the fair, including a variety of art workshops and cultural events taking place in a wide variety of institutions and venues.
The first edition of Art Market Budapest, Central and Eastern Europe’s emerging contemporary art fair, opened in October 2011. The successes of the first year, over ten thousand visitors, overbooking by interested exhibitors, the international attention and professional recognition, clearly indicate that there is demand in the art world and by the wider audience for this new element of the international art scene. Professionals and art-lovers received with interest and appreciation the art fair that concentrates on the art of the Central and Eastern European region.
As Nicola Trezzi, US Editor of Flash Art International and Curator of the Prague Biennial, summarized: ”Art Market Budapest is not just an art fair: it is a gathering, a place for people to meet, discuss and exchange information about an artistic community which is very sophisticated and still to be discovered…”
Art Market Budapest is at once a cultural, sociological and social event, which renders contemporary art visible and accessible to observers, and to the local and worldwide professional audience, providing a context within which art can be discussed and ideas exchanged. This unique event aspires to host the most popular contemporary art event in Eastern Europe as a recognized and appreciated element of the global art scene.
Art Market Budapest has quickly become one of the decisive elements of Central and Eastern European art, aiming to increase the worldwide level of appreciation for, and interest in, contemporary art and artists of this unique geographical and historic region. We look forward to welcoming you as exhibitor, visitor or partner at what we anticipate to be a truly memorable event. For the days of the fair, Budapest will be the center and capital of contemporary art in Central and Eastern Europe.
Main components of Art Market Budapest
THE ART FAIR
The main element of Art Market Budapest is the art fair itself. What makes this event unique and different from others is the dominant presentation of art from the Central and Eastern European region within an international context. The main exhibition area of Millenaris, a former industrial district, is a state of the art and conveniently located art complex that provides the ideal facilities and environment for both exhibitors and visitors. The indoor attractions of the fair will be complemented by an outdoor sculpture exhibition installed among the buildings of the cultural complex.

ART FESTIVAL IN BUDAPEST

The art festival aims to enhance the attractiveness of Budapest as a leading destination for cultural tourism, and to make accessible a wealth of art-related events for the citizens and visitors of this art-loving city.
SPECIAL ART PROJECTS / PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Adding to the excitement, Art Market Budapest selects new highlighted themes each year, presented in the exhibition halls and through related programs. In 2012, a special art project focuses on contemporary art reflections on Jewish identity and culture. As a part of the year dedicated to the memory of Raoul Wallenberg, and commemorating the centennial of the birth of the Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of lives during the Holocaust, an exhibition will be presented and much attention devoted to this topic in all other professional elements of the fair. The other highlighted topic of this year’s edition is the latest international success story of Eastern European art, the Cluj School. This outstanding phenomenon will also be presented with a curatorial show, exhibiting some of the region’s best known and newly emerging artists. International guests and experts will discuss these highlighted topics, and various other program elements will help introduce them to visitors to the fair.
“INSIDE ART” PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM
In partnership with the Art Management Program of the International Business School, a series of related professional events will be held at the fair, including round-table discussions, artist interviews, and book launches. These events will appeal to both the connoisseur and the professional, strengthening the professional aspects of Art Market Budapest with first-hand information and education. Contributions by internationally respected professionals will give an important endorsement to the significance of Central and Eastern European art.
VIP PROGRAM / ART COLLECTOR’S CLUB
Relevant to all aspects of Art Market Budapest, our colleagues are designing a VIP program that renders the fair and the city attractive and accessible to foreign guests, as well as attracting local economic and social opinion-leaders to the fair. A VIP lounge will be available at the fair, and VIP guests will receive a gift package, enabling them to attend various programs free of charge. In designing the VIP activities and bringing a group of high-level visitors together at the location, the Art Collectors’ Club is a VIP partner of Art Market Budapest.
MUSEUM EDUCATION / SCHOOL VISITS / CHILDREN’S CORNER
The education of future generations of art-lovers, and the establishment and fostering of relationships between the younger audience and contemporary art are among the primary goals of Art Market Budapest. With generous support provided by B.Braun, the fair provides special opportunities to encourage this, with a specialized working group of our colleagues created to organize school groups, visits and guided tours, along with other art-related educational activities. For our very youngest visitors, a children’s art-corner will be provided at the fair.
COMPLEMENTARY SERVICES AND EVENTS AT THE FAIR
During the fair, additional services will be provided to visitors and exhibitors to make their visit as enjoyable as possible. These will include a meeting place, a lounge where after the daily closing of the fair, exhibitors, collectors and artists can meet in a comfortable setting. In cooperation with Millenaris, other cultural events are in the process of being organized.
PR AND MEDIA
Efficient communication is vital to the success of an event such as Art Market Budapest. In order to promote the fair and its related programs, we are implementing a comprehensive communication campaign that comprises a wide range of media. With the invaluable contribution of MEC Global, one of the largest international media agencies, the campaign will reach a wide and varied audience. A special campaign using the tools of direct communication is targeted to the VIP audience. The organizers and partners of Art Market Budapest permanently work on further broadening the services and program elements of the fair.
