"…The day as we compose it has become a series of secheduled activities and not of perceptions. When we talk about our day, we talked about what we did or crammed in.Not we noticed or thought…" Pieter Ombregt (1980-2007)
Elgiz Museum will be holding the "XYZ" Exhibition; The photography of Pieter Ombregt , a Belgian Born conceptual artist who died on a tragic cycling accident at a very young age. The exhibition can be visited between the dates October 9 - December 8, in the context of Museum’s "Project Room /Proje Odası" series.
1980 born artist came to Chicago and studied photography at Columbia College Chicago where he stayed to live and work afterwards. Chicago, also creates the setting for the photographs of XYZ project. This series of of photography is the narrative of the urban life, that unbeatable feeling of "loneliness" of the urban indiviual..
With a dramatic lighting and a sense of linearity in the photographs, there is this lonesome man in his orange overalls, standing still observing but never "fitting" .. The man is not a self portrait but an image of the urban prisoner. The much populated city in his photographs became uncomfortably deserted, glimpse of high rises, docks or streets but no people.
The artist, always "protogonist" in his work, questions life and "being" while waiting viewers supply their own answers.
Pieter Ombregt has also some writings, some statement left where he had captured the "moment" not only by his camera but by his pencil as well.
