Optic Nerve. From a Memory Lost 1981-2012. Digital additions to the original image that include details from a photo taken of a Buddhist painting called Illusory City.

comunicato stampa

One of the most interesting photos I have taken was at Papunya in 1981.

It is a very unusual double exposure of two well-known Aboriginal artists that I was friends with, John Jagamarra and Willie Jungarai.

This year, in 2012, I made digital additions to the original image that include details from a photo taken of a Buddhist painting called Illusory City that is in a cave at Dun Huang in China.

The combination of new imagery and the adjustments I made say something about the extraordinary painting movement that began in the Australian desert.

The original photo was unusual in that the forms that appeared in the image seemed to reflect ideas about the subject’s own belief system.
