Parlour Projects is pleased to present an exhibition of recent work by Hope Ginsburg, related to her beekeeping project, Bearded Lady. Over the course of three years, Ginsburg has been the apprentice of beekeeper Frances Bowen and has produced Bearded Lady Honey. In the Fall of 1998 Ginsburg built up antibodies to bee venom in order to perform a bee beard, in which more than 15,000 honeybees hung in a swarm from her chin. Video documentation of this process will be on view.
Parlour Projects is pleased to present an exhibition of recent work by
Hope Ginsburg, related to her beekeeping project, Bearded Lady. Over the
course of three years, Ginsburg has been the apprentice of beekeeper
Frances Bowen and has produced Bearded Lady Honey. In the Fall of 1998
Ginsburg built up antibodies to bee venom in order to perform a bee
beard, in which more than 15,000 honeybees hung in a swarm from her chin.
Video documentation of this process will be on view. These same bees
have produced Bearded Lady pure wildflower honey, which will be available
for purchase at PARLOUR PROJECTS, along with works related to the newest
phase of the project, preparation for the honey's retail distribution.
Ginsburg sets goals particular to a chosen subject matter (home shopping,
beekeeping, etc.) then through research and observation, discovers the
processes by which those goals can be achieved. Her work takes the form
of images, evidence, objects and ideas generated along the way.
