Mirror II Nature is an exhibition of 14 artists making work that explores the
representation of nature within urban contexts.
Hosted by Seven Seven Contemporary Art. Curated by Alan Bond
A remote controlled cloud by Dawn Shorten patrols the gallery, Meryl Ainslie
shows a life-size drawing of an apple tree presented along
side a video projection of the same tree in a gale. May Cornet shows
delicately observed silhouettes of seedlings presented in a
perspex plant stand. Stuart Mayes builds a forest of chairs on stilts. Maslen
& Mehra have created pigeon sculptures
titled the Dirty Dozen shown photographed at Trafalgar Square. Alan Bond will
show paintings that refer to microscopic or cosmic
structures. Ryan Durrant's physical paintings refer to the experience of
observation and variation within similar forms. Peter Benson's
photographs of ancient museum cases show the futility of attempting to
preserve transient beauty. Paul Danks reinterprets
Gainsborough in a large triptych. Heather Libson's paintings represent nature
seen from a speeding car. Stephen Felmingham
searches for sounds in the ether and Jill Townsley constructs bales that are
both bucolic and industrial.
