The Artevistas Gallery celebrates its fifth anniversary with a new solo exhibition of the artist Monique van Steen: large-format works and bright colors will surprise the public that will join us on this special day. The iCandy exhibit is an explosion of transcended beauty: Monique van Steen gives us unexpected portraits of mysterious women. Large eyes, full lips, thin nose and throat, soft hair...

Van Steen paints her faces based on the beauty standards emphasized by today's media. She shows that pressure by the media and photographic retouching have standardized deception by wiping out natural features. The evolution of Monique van Steen’s work is also reflected in her technique. Using her famous dripping technique, applying drops of varnish on the canvas, is each time more accurate and allows us to see ever more details appear on her seductive figures. The intention of Monique van Steen is to stimulate reflection on what attracts us and why: why do we accept artificial beauty as something normal? Through the iCandy exhibit, we will know what the limits of beauty are. We will discover the fine line between exaggeration and monstrosity. The huge malicious eyes will seduce us with their sensual charm. Universal beauty will remain a chimera, beauty in art is no longer with Monique van Steen and her iCandy exhibit.
