comunicato stampa

Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC), the International Contemporary Art Fair of the West Coast, announces its fourth edition to be held at the Barker Hangar January 24–27, 2013. The fair features an exclusive roster of established and emerging galleries from across the globe. While continuing its tradition of highlighting galleries from Los Angeles, ALAC welcomes a greater number of international galleries to the cultural landscape of Los Angeles in January.

For the 2013 edition, ALAC is proud to be partnering with Ceci N'est Pas . . . Art Between France and Los Angeles (CNP), a five-month cultural art exchange between France and Los Angeles initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, which will feature over 30 French-American collaborations in contemporary art in the Los Angeles area. Art Los Angeles Contemporary will highlight visiting French galleries and their exhibiting artists. The fair will also emphasize the relationship between these two cultural hubs through extensive programming of talks, lectures, and screenings. "CNP provides a significant springboard towards fostering future cultural collaborations between France and LA, while strengthening ties between the two art scenes," said fair Director Tim Fleming.

A number of participating galleries will present a wide array of compelling solo projects. UNTITLED and Thomas Solomon Gallery will together present a project by Ry Rocklen, a Los Angeles-based artist who collects cast-off objects and transforms them into performative objects and post-minimalist sculpture. Pilar Corrias Gallery will exhibit a new body of paintings by Tala Madani that reference the easy consumption of art and politics, as a preview of her solo show at Moderna Museet, Malmo, which will then travel to Moderna Museet, Stockholm, in February 2013. Susan Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects will show work by Yunhee Min, who is a part of both the Hammer Museum and LACMA's permanent collections. Min is included in the upcoming exhibition Lost Line: Contemporary Art from the Collection at LACMA.

A special highlight for the 2013 edition includes a collaborative booth by Paris-based New Galerie with LA-based artist Lizzie Fitch and Paris-based collective We Are The Painters (WATP) created by Aurélien Porte and Nicolas Beaumelle. WATP will be onsite at ALAC with Fitch to create an environment which will include individual as well as collective elements. We are the Painters functions in an egalitarian manner. The interventions of each of the members complement each other while their individual authorship remains anonymous.
