This exhibition is devoted to artists who, using the scanner, mouse and screen as their sketch pad, brush and canvas, have embraced the potential of the computer as their artistic medium. Digital Bridges explores a wide variety of visual responses to this new creative challenge.

The Artists
Toni Dalton
A long time resident of Westbeth, studied at the New York Studio School. Painted all the time until she had an accident and was unable to paint. She then began painting on her Macintosh computer and has been doing that for the last 3 years. Had a show at the Vorpal Gallery on West Broadway in Soho in 1985, and at Barnes and Nobles and have exhibited at the Westbeth xmasgroup shows for the last 20 years.
Easton Davy
Self taught and now highly regarded, his life resembles every successful Jamaican immigrant's son's tale. He started drawing at age 5, and continued painting between jobs. Discovered by a noted attorney who collected his work, he now creates images for BRAVO TV, and the NBA. He is represented by the Deziyers Gallery in Philadelphia and Allerton Arts in New York.
Mariah Fee
Currently teaches Mixed Media at Parsons School of Design. Graduate of RISD, studied at Brown and Cooper Union, MFA from U.Mass. Grants from the NEA, Westchester Council for the Arts, resident at Santa Fe Art Institute. Will be artist in residence at Lafayette College working in digital media. Exhibited at Armory Paper Show, Artist Space, Exit Art, Gallery X and at Site Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Christine Fye
Since art school in London and New York has had a career as an artist in many different media - painting, drawing, sculpture, clothing and theatre set design, and film and video - and is now exploring the realms of computer-based art.
Brian Gormley
Graduated from Cornell where he majored in painting and printmaking. He has exhibited worldwide and has shown at MOMA, Exit Art and Artist's Space. He is currently visiting professor at Lafayette College where he is producing large format digital prints.
Mara Herskowitz
Graduated Hunter College in New York, majoring in music. Self taught in the visual arts and photography, she combines these disciplines to create digital photographs and film. She has exhibited at Gallery X, Art for Healing Gallery, Firehouse #5 Gallery, Exit Art and MOMA. She was part of the 9/11 Photo Project.
Patrick Morell
Documentary film maker. He is travelling at this time.
Kurt Novak
Has been creating mixed-media installations and sculptures for over twenty years. For the past two years he has been concentrating his efforts on the creation of direct-scan portraits, large-scale photographic images made without the use of a camera. Originally from Detroit, he has exhibited throughout the US and in Japan, Austria and England. He supports himself by working as an Art Director for a major metropolitan newspaper.
Toki Ozaki
Creates videos, installations, sound-works and sculptures. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, she has been living and exhibiting in New York for 10 years. She has shown her work in Japan, Austria and various cities in the US.
Robert Pollard
Information ecologist. Math and Economics at Cambridge University; Social Relations at Johns Hopkins. First engaged with computers in 1966 in a quantitative analysis of the French Revolution. Left academia during the Vietnam War to become a grassroots activist on peace and sustainability; since 1980 has worked with microcomputers as an organizing tool. His 1996 discovery of the mathematical properties of three-dimensional - RGB - digital colour space was the catalyst for his emergence as an artist.
Chris Twomey
Attended Reed College, BFA Ramapo College, studied at Visual Arts, and MFA Pratt Institute. During this time, she was awarded a Ford grant, CAPS, the Kitchen Center, and Experimental TV grant. Professionally a filmmaker/television producer, other grants included an American Film Institute Directing Internship. Will be artist in residence at Santa Fe Art Institute in the fall. Exhibited at MOMA, Katonah Museum, Artists Space, Exit Art, and is in the permanent collection of the Museum of New Art, Detroit, MI.
Angela Valeria
Received her BFA from Hunter college, continued her studies in Florence and Bologna, presently teaches at Parsons School of Design, lectures at Hunter, and is instructor at Empire State College. A visiting artist at The American Academy in Rome, she has had fourteen solo exhibitions from 1970 to the present, and has been included in countless group shows.
Arnold Wechsler
Part of the New York art scene since the early 1970's, he soon gained international recognition. Educated at the School of Visual Arts and Columbia University, he created and directed Visual Arts Production, and co-founded the Organization of Independent Artists. His work has been shown in New York City, Washington DC, Denver, Mexico City, Madrid, Paris, Bologna, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Rudi Wolff
An award winning graphic artist, his work included exhibition design, film and corporate design. He is a graduate in fine art from Cooper Union and a Fulbright fellow, studied painting with Reginald Marsh, woodcut with B. Brussel-Smith and calligraphy with Arnold Bank, taught design at Pratt Institute. His digital art is in private and institutional collections.
