First Showing!

Kunstmuseum Bonn, Bonn

New donations and acquisitions for the Prints and Drawings Collection. The comprehensive selection of works points out the abundance of artistic forms of expression presented in the collection: Abstraction, figuration, expressionism or geometry are no longer in conflict with each other.

comunicato stampa

curated by Stefan Gronert

Due to conservational reasons the contents of a prints and drawings collection are seldom shown and thus often hidden from the visitors’ curious view. At the same time, it is 5,000 prints and drawings that make up the majority of the Kunstmuseum’s collection. This exhibition aims at unveiling parts of this “secret” and presents a selection of works on paper which entered the museum’s collection during the last years as donations and acquisitions.

Most of the works shown are drawings by younger artists. Drawing has been experiencing a rediscovery since the 1990s and the Kunstmuseum has been following this topic systematically in its shows since the exhibition series “Zeichnung heute” (1997-2007). This trend is also reflected in the museum’s collection from which newly acquired gems were picked for this presentation. The show includes works ranging from large-format drawings by Anna Amadio and Jan Albers, smaller sheets by Thomas Müller, Thomas Rentmeister, Daniel Roth and Heiner Blumenthal, collages by Jan Wawrzyniak as well as object-like arrangements by Claudia Busching, which, like many other works in this exhibition, are part of a recent donation from the Sammlung Posselt.

This comprehensive selection of works by artists from A to Z (from Amadio to Ziervogel) points out the abundance of artistic forms of expression presented in the collection: Abstraction, figuration, expressionism or geometry are no longer in conflict with each other. We want to individually explore what we’ve never seen before.

Artists: Jan Albers; Anna Amadio, Bernhard Johannes Blume, Heiner Blumenthal, Claudia Busching, Werner Haypeter, Michael Müller, Thomas Müller, Thomas Rentmeister, Dorothee Rocke, Daniel Roth, Hanns Schimansky, Petra Siering, Karl Theo Stammer, Jan Wawrzyniak, Ralf Ziervogel
