The exhibition presents a distinctive moment in the development of six artists. The Evolution of Art displays two works by each artist, one early piece and one of more recent works. The selection represents two states, which, however, are not revealing a simple "before and after", but allows a glance from the present to the past as well as to the future. The early work does not conclusively explain the recent piece, but rather stands as an equivalent possibility next to it, whereas the recent work may change our perception of the early piece.
These juxtapositions, from a developing point of view, gently confuse temporal levels, in which the presence is not only based on, but possibly changes the past and hence influences our expectation of the future. The juxtapositions will be dealt with in an accompanying dime novel booklet. The fictional art criticism in this booklet, halfway consisting of artist´s interviews and of made-up science fiction, directs the reader, via detours, towards an allegedly continuous characteristic in the work of the artists.
