Extra-Ordinary. Photography and new media from the collection
Storage Telling is a new series of collection presentations that aims to surprise the visitor with hidden treasures of the collection. The first series titled Extra-Ordinary concentrates on photography and video. These media have not been a collection priority as the museum's policy does not focus on specific techniques. Photography and video often form part of an installation or are a single aspect of a multidisciplinary oeuvre. On view are works from lesser known and renowned artists. All photos and videos show seemingly common objects, events and occurrences. It is only on closer look that the captured reality appears slightly out of the ordinary. The artists in Extra-Ordinary make use of new media in various ways to achieve this effect. They are: Pawel Althamer (1967 Warsaw, PL), David Heitz (1983 Wurmberg, DE), Benoit Hermans (1963 Wittem, NL), Nam June Paik (1932 Seoul, KR) - 2006 Miami, Florida, USA), Roman Signer (1938 Appenzell, CH), Roy Villevoye (1960 Maastricht, NL), Kim Zwarts (1955 Maastricht, NL).
