An exhibition of the works produced by the winning artists from 2012 and the students over the time spent during the travel in China, where they worked alongside local artists.
The Red Mansion Art Prize was established in 2002 to promote artistic exchange between China and the UK. Seven of the UK’s leading postgraduate Fine Art courses were invited to shortlist six artists to the competition. A judging panel then selected one artist from each of the participating colleges: Royal Academy Schools, Royal College of Art, Chelsea College of Art, Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, Slade School of Fine Art, Goldsmiths College, and The Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art.
The winners were invited to travel to China during the summer for a period of one month were they lived and worked alongside local artists and were given a studio space. Flights, accommodation and living expenses were provided.
An exhibition of the works produced by the students over this time is being held at the Lethaby Gallery at Central Saint Martins.
