La Broyeuse de Chocolat

Institut Mathildenhohe, Darmstadt

An open-air exhibition by Caroline Bachmann and Stefan Banz, the founders and operators of the Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp. Instead of having 1,000 square meters of exhibition space at their disposal, they have to make do with just half a cubic meter for their review of 100 years of contemporary art in the spirit of Duchamp.

comunicato stampa

The KUNSTHALLE MARCEL DUCHAMP is invited to replace the INSTITUT MATHILDENHÖHE DARMSTADT, Germany, during its renovation. From 21 April to 3 November 2013 it is showing:
LA BROYEUSE DE CHOCOLAT
An Exhibition by Caroline Bachmann and Stefan Banz

Curated by Ralf Beil

The Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp will, for the first time ever, be changing its location and exhibiting, throughout the summer of 2013, in front of the exhibition building of the Mathildenhőhe, which is temporarily closed for renovation. The high-caliber theme exhibition-LA BROYEUSE DE CHOCOLAT (Chocolate Grinder)-has been conceived by the Swiss artists Caroline Bachmann and Stefan Banz, the founders and operators of the Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp. Instead of having 1,000 square meters of exhibition space at their disposal, Bachmann and Banz have to make do with just half a cubic meter for their review of one hundred years of contemporary art in the spirit of Marcel Duchamp.

This international group exhibition will mark the centenary of the CHOCOLATE GRINDER with significant works after Marcel Duchamp, Meret Oppenheim, Ed Ruscha, Aldo Walker, Robert Gober, Vik Muniz, and Sonja Alhäuser-all in miniature format and hence all the more impressive.

On the occasion of the exhibition a publication (the first ever to be devoted entirely to Duchamp's Broyeuse de chocolat) is published: LA BROYEUSE DE CHOCOLAT. Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp at Mathildenhőhe Darmstadt, edited by Caroline Bachmann, Stefan Banz, and Ralf Beil. With essays by Bradley Bailey, Stefan Banz, Ralf Beil, Martin R. Dean, Dalia Judovitz and Thomas Zaunschirm. German and English, 336 pages, 14 x 10.5 cm, Hardcover, Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp no. 9 | Verlag für Moderne Kunst, Nürnberg, 2013, € 20.
