Selected drawings, 1978-1999. In August, Canadian artist, Gregg Simpson will be exhibiting a retrospective of drawings, pastels and frottages in southern France. This exhibition of forty-four works will be presented in the Salle du Couvent in the village of Seillans. This village was made famous by the 10 year residency of surrealist painters, Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning, whose own works are housed across the street in the Espace Waldberg, founded by historian and biographer, Patrick Waldberg.

In August, Canadian artist, Gregg Simpson will be exhibiting a retrospective
of drawings, pastels and frottages in southern France. This exhibition of
forty-four works will be presented in the Salle du Couvent in the village of
Seillans. This village was made famous by the 10 year residency of
surrealist painters, Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning, whose own works are
housed across the street in the Espace Waldberg, founded by historian and
biographer, Patrick Waldberg.
This exhibition is especially significant for Simpson, as Ernst was an early
and lasting influence on the artist in his collages, frottages,
decalcomanias and oils. Simpson will be exhibiting a number of frottage
drawings done in charcoal in addition to many automaticist pastels. The
artist will also have available copies of his book of frottage drawings from
1971-1975, entitled Disquieting Day in an Underground Forest.
