Full Frontal: Contemporary Asian Artists from
the Logan Collection
October 18, 2003 - May 23, 2004
In December 2001, Vicki and Kent Logan donated more than 200 artworks from the
1980s and 1990s to the Denver Art Museum's Modern and Contemporary Art
collection as a fractional and promised gift. Their gift includes works by
contemporary Asian artists who not only reflect their cultural backgrounds, but
also address issues affecting the societies in which they live. Representing
artists from China, Singapore, and Taiwan, the paintings and photographs in this
exhibition include pieces by Hung Tung-lu, Song Yonghong, Su-en Wong, Yu Youhan,
Zeng Fanzhi, and Zhang Huan. Made possible with support from William Sharpless
Jackson Jr.

A Family: Portraits by Jim Torok
October 18, 2003 - March 28, 2004
A Denver couple recently commissioned Jim Torok to paint individual portraits of
themselves, their children and spouses, and their grandchildren. This
exhibition presents all 23 works, each measuring only 5x4 inches. The dead-on,
head-and-shoulder portraits were done with the aid of photographs. Torok
frequently works from photographs, seeking unaffected, unposed countenances of
the sitters. Candidness is surprisingly tricky, which Torok knows first-hand
because he is often his own subject.
The Denver Art Museum is located in downtown Denver between Broadway and Bannock
on 13th Avenue. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.;
Wednesday until 9 p.m.; Sunday noon to 5 p.m.; closed Mondays and most major
holidays. Special pricing may apply to featured exhibitions. General Museum
admission is free for children 12 and under and Museum members, $6 for seniors
65+, students 13 and older and college students with I.D., $8 for adults.
