What moves as a body, returns as the movement of thought

In the fifth edition of SKYWAY, art will take the audience to other worlds. The town will become a creative landscape, where artistic play with the urban image gives its fabric a human sense. Calling symbols and gestures, inviting the spectators for deep, experimenting with the given, the city will appear as a kaleidoscope of impossible landscapes and incredible worlds.
Since the first edition in 2009, SKYWAY has been promoting the continuum of History and Memory, Knowledge and Creativity, Science and Art. It is a monumental thought experiment which aims to power the semblance of imagination in the city. This year, the growing audience is invited to see art as truly an horizon of another kind, a virtual complement to the everyday reality.
Three main aspects of the cityscape will be approached by three different modalities of artistic practice:
New Gothic (Nu-Gothic), surprising constructions will start an ephemeral dialogue with the values of gothic’s aesthetics, provocatively supplementing the discourse of the cultural heritage conservation with critical modern approach to the art of light;
Image Kaleidoscope, using the techniques of illumination, video and three-dimensional mapping one may draw out from usually flat walls and facades subtle features discovering new surprising perspective of Toruń’s architecture;
Immersion, the historical centre of Toruń is varied, full of secret places where the artists may create certain micro-worlds. By limiting the space, only a small group of viewers will be able to experience it at the time. Such being, almost alone, with art is an intense feeling. Those installations will give the viewers a moment of relief and will enable them to immerse into their own intimate world.
Impossible landscapes. Incredible worlds. In 2013, Toruń becomes a place of wonder again, here and now.
SKYWAY ’13 programme is, first about challenging the Gothic heritage of Toruń by means of a contemporary look; second, about being amazed by art’s subtle otherness, disclosing another Torunwithin the town’s self-image. In this framework, the ongoing aesthetic engagement with the town points to new horizons in harmony with TAK’s cultural strategy for Torun. Ephemeral Constructions, Urban Projections and Immersive Atmospheres will be the three ways for several Cultural Themes to appear as the expression of the liveliness of Toruń. The Old Town again becomes a stage for experiencing the lightness of art in the richest of dialogues with the richest local context.
