SANTA MONICA, CA - On THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2003 Santa Monica Lowe Gallery presents new paintings and works on paper by Lita Cabellut, Margarita Checa, and Carrie McGee. This exhibition runs through December 5, 2003.

Lita Cabellut (paintings)--Lita Cabellut's canvases are about the oscillation between the temporal process of her pictorial technique and the desire to secure this process in time, to place the image within time, to give it the sense of being natural, to project a mood that hovers between the immanent and the transcendent. Cabellut's formal and technical operations are directed toward the content of the paintings - to give the utmost sensation, though always with restraint, to achieve a sense of immateriality about the portrait.

Margarita Checa (sculptures)--The impending loss of the forests and its innocent souls inspire many of Margarita Checa's images. The use of woods and concerns with anthropological motifs may be seen as a way to probe beneath the layered surfaces of an increasingly complex society and art world through visual imagery that is as potent as it is lost and lonely.

Carrie McGee (installations)--The layered visual climate of this work speaks about interior life, time passage and memory. In it Carrie McGee explores visually the contradictory nature of impulses to expose and conceal, to draw in and to distance, through which we connect our inner life to the world.

Reception for the artists: Thursday, October 30, 6-9 PM
