The exhibition explores the theatrical in performance, film and video
The exhibition explores the theatrical in performance, film and video. It features video installations by Judith Barry (USA), Stan Douglas (Canada), Marcel Dzama (Canada), Joan Jonas (USA), Isaac Julien (UK) and Constanze Ruhm (Austria). The show also features a programme with films by Marie Louise Ekman (Sweden), Eva Meyer/Eran Schaerf (Germany) and Ulrike Ottinger (Germany) that are shown during evenings and weekends in the presence of the artists. The artist Joan Jonas gives her performance Reanimation in collaboration with the jazz pianist Jason Moran. The way in which the exhibited art work has drawn inspiration from theatre, as well as theatre’s significance for contemporary art and art theory, is discussed during two whole-day events that offer open lectures by artists and researchers. Curated by Ute Meta Bauer, assistant curator: Anca Rujoiu. (Image: Joan Jonas, "Lines in the Sand," 2002. Commissioned by documenta 11. Courtesy of the artist. Photo: Werner Maschmann)
