A New Film by Gerard Byrne
Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2

[DVD, 54 mins, 2003]

Temple Bar Outdoors: outside visual arts is pleased to host the premiere presentation of the film version of Gerard Byrne's NEW SEXUAL LIFESTYLES. The film will be screened in the outdoor projection space of Meeting House Square, Temple Bar from 4 -22 November 2003, Tuesday - Saturday, 8-11pm.

Originally presented as a film installation as part of his Herald or Press show at the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Byrne's NEW SEXUAL LIFESTYLES film is based on a transcript of a panel discussion that appeared in Playboy magazine in 1973. The original panel was made up of a diverse group of American experts from leading academics to the infamous porn star Linda Lovelace. The filmed re-enactment of this discussion with contemporary actors engages with the inherent theatricality of revisiting such a culturally specific time and context. In turn it provides the contemporary audience with an opportunity to re-read and re-examine the relevance and interest of such issues today. Filmed in the well-known and celebrated late modernist structure, the Goulding Summer house in County Wicklow, which was built in 1972, the location itself brings its own timely history to the work.
