Russian Maliconia made in Switzerland. On show some of his most relevant artworks, like "The Books I've loved" series, handmade silk-screen printings of great dimensions reproducing the entire texts of his loved books.
The Theca Gallery Lugano has the pleasure to announce that the Italo-Russian artist Marc Vincent Kalinka has recently joined the gallery. The collaboration has significantly started during his participation in the the event “Balconism”, during the 55th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia directed by Massimilano Gioni.
Theca Gallery will be the exclusive representative of the artist Marc Vincent Kalinka in Switzerland for some of his most relevant artworks. Among his internationally renowned artworks, Theca Gallery will exhibit “More – YellowRed” sold at an evening charity Christie’s Auction & Private Sales in Zurich, the series “Maliconico”, modern icons representing Greta Garbo, Edith Piaf and pre and post-war icons of the cinema and entertainment, digitally rebuild according to the techniques of real Byzantine and Russian icons, in a new and more contemporary way of representing them.
The Theca Gallery in Lugano will also exhibit the artworks “I, you, he, shemale”, the last studies on icons by Kalinka. This series arise from some considerations on the new way of interpreting icons and images on the internet. We will also show the video “Still – Nothing”, an 8 hours video which represents the author’s biography until today.
Among the available artworks, we will present the series “The Books I’ve loved”, handmade silk-screen printings of great dimensions reproducing the entire texts of Kalinka’s most loved books and whose letters compose the author’s portrait, like Dostoevsky or other Russian writers and poets, Heinrich Böll and other authors. Some of Kalinka’s artworks are part of important private and public collections.
