The Don O'Melveny Gallery is proud to announce the exhibition of a stunning new series of paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Marina Forstmann Day.
Titled Mixed Bags, the thematically linked paintings show an uncommonly
exact eye for color, texture, and composition. Writing in the catalogue for
the show, curator Lawrence Rinder of the Whitney Museum further adds:
"There is an element of magic in this work, a conjuring of the past and the
spirits of things. They are as much raw voodoo fetishes as they are elegant
works of art. It may be possible to harness some of the darker feelings
contained within so that these works become as frightening as they are
enjoyable."
Born in Greenwich, Connecticut, Day graduated from Georgetown University in
Washington D.C. and completed post-grad studies at the Pacific Graduate
Institute in Santa Barbara. Day has exhibited widely in solo and group shows
on both the east and west coasts, as well as belonging in a number of
private and corporate collections.
The catalogue for the show with text by Lawrence Rinder is now available.
