comunicato stampa

Each December in Miami, NADA runs a renowned art fair to vigorously pursue our goals of exploring new or underexposed art that is not typical of the “art establishment.” NADA’s fair is held in parallel with Art Basel Miami Beach and is recognized as a much needed alternative assembly of the world’s youngest and strongest art galleries dealing with emerging Contemporary Art. It is the only major American art fair to be run by a non-profit organization.

NADA first launched the art fair in Miami in 2003, with 35 exhibitors in a vacant space located off of Lincoln Road near the Convention Center. In 2003, many [NADA] dealers sold out their booths within hours. Understanding the hunger for emerging work and the contemporary market, NADA hired a new director, Heather Hubbs to execute the next editions of the fair. For the next five years NADA Art Fair was held at the Ice Palace in Miami, where the roots of the fair began to expand. In 2005, NADA fielded about 415 applications for 80 slots.

In 2009, NADA moved the fair to the stately ballrooms and beachside environs of the historic Deauville Beach Resort located on Collins Ave. and 67th St. in North Miami Beach. In efforts to respond to economic downturn, NADA looked for new ways to lower costs for younger galleries. Moving to North Beach allowed NADA to lower overall booth costs and discounted prices on hotel rooms.

At the fair, stop by the Artsy booth: an on-site charging station where Artsy specialists will be on-hand to offer personal demos of the platform and other special collector services.

The Bam + NADA Portfolio features a dozen unique and newly produced prints by twelve of the most exciting contemporary artists working today:
Joshua Abelow, Sascha Braunig, Sarah Crowner, Alex Da Corte, Michael DeLucia, Christian Holstad, Zak Kitnick, Margaret Lee, Sam Moyer, Ulrike Müller, Zak Prekop, and Michael Williams.

NADA by American Apparel will feature artwork by four contemporary American artists, each represented by a NADA exhibitor, printed on American Apparel merchandise of their selection. The 2013 featured artists are Anya Kielar, Andrew Kuo, Cary Leibowitz, and Scott Reeder.

The line will be available at American Apparel stores in Miami and the NADA by American Apparel pop up shop, part of the newly designed NADA entrance in the lobby of the Deauville Beach Resort, along with NADA merchandise, through the duration of the fair. Select American Apparel stores in Miami, New York, and Los Angeles will carry NADA by American Apparel, and will also be available for purchase on-line through their website.

At NADA Miami Beach 2013, Phaidon is celebrating the publication of Art Cities of the Future: 21st Century Avant-Gardes ($79.95). Visitors to the fair are invited to utilize Artsy’s online catalogue to explore Phaidon’s Insider’s Guide and discover galleries and artists from twelve emerging art capitals around the world. Document and share your finds on social media using #artcities and #phaidon.

A partnership with Artadia makes all artists with work on display at NADA Miami Beach eligable to win The Artadia Award, an unrestricted $4,000 prize. The winner will be chosen by two internationally renowned curators on the opening day of the fair: Thursday, December 5th. The winner and the names of the jurors will be announced on Friday, December 6th.

The artist whose work is selected will join the Artadia family and receive all lifetime priveleges of the Artadia awardees, including access to Artadia’s national network and the option to participate in Artadia’s programs, exhibitions, and publications. The Award winner will be eligable for Artadia’s New York Residency program, professional services and will be promoted in all materials.

Kids will have a chance to be directly inspired by artists and their works. All participants receive a LittleCollector tote bag and activity guide. Dedicated to exploring professions whose intricacies are often wondered at but rarely explored, Talk Show uses the typical broadcast format interviewer, monologue, house band, special guests—to explore the atypical topic of the world of work. Other variations on the form include: no actual broadcast, questions from the audience, and a sideman who mixes cocktails. Previous guests have included: a Perfume Designer, an Exterminator, and a Department Store Santa.

In this installment, Talk Show leaves its usual home at Cabinet Magazine in Brooklyn for a special one-off Miami edition. Guests include plastic surgeon Jonathan Fisher, professional Stuntman Eric Mainade, a luxury yacht salesman, and special musical guests DROOIDS X Merkx & Gwynne.
