Instincts. Di Prospero discovered the coherence and implicit meaning in this work through an observation made a posteriori: as she says, these photographs are the visual representation of traces of intimacy imprinted in her memory.
«Instinct is a work that came out with its own strength. I consider every shot as a trace of an instinct
that I never explored before in my work and perhaps in my life.
All the shots have been taken in 2012. The entire series is composed by 18 pieces. Most of them are self-
portraits and portraits of my partner.
In every diptych, the images on the right was created by me digitally, using different photos of
water, grass, clouds, flowers, stones, dust and earth.
I use photography as a tool to question my relationship in between myself and people that surround
my life. Thanks to this project I gained a lot of new knowledge, not only photographically but especially
personally.»
Anna Di Prospero
Anna Di Prospero discovered the coherence and implicit meaning in this work through
an observation made à posteriori : as she says, these photographs are the visual represen-
tation of traces of intimacy imprinted in her memory. The images, produced between 2011
and 2012, range from the self-portrait, the photographer’s favourite genre, to portraits of
her partner ; fragments of faces (eyes half-closed, mouths that smile, talk, kiss) and bodies
(hands or backs often immortalised during tender embraces) are combined with architectu-
ral details, or landscapes belonging to a « mental archive » containing images of the pho-
tographer’s experience. As a final choice, Anna Di Prospero composes diptychs combining
these images with digitally reworked photographs of water, clouds, grass, rocks, dust and
earth.
