comunicato stampa

Annie Atkins, the lead graphic designer for Wes Anderson’s new crime-caper The Grand Budapest Hotel has been invited to exhibit a selection of graphic props she designed for the new film at Light House Cinema in Dublin from Friday 7th – Monday 31st March 2014.

Set in the Empire of Zubrowka, a fictitious European country between the wars, The Grand Budapest Hotel tells the story of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. Working closely with Wes Anderson and his production designer Adam Stockhausen, it was the job of Atkins to develop the graphic identity of the many artefacts in the new film, which boasts the meticulous attention to detail and spectacular design that fans have come to expect from the director.

The exhibition at Light House Cinema, entitled ‘A Brief Survey of Graphic Design from the Empire of Zubrowka (1932-1968)’, will feature a selection of props designed by Atkins for use in the film, displayed with permission from Twentieth Century Fox LTD. Designs to be exhibited will include the official currency of Zubrowka, hand-written love letters, a book of romantic poetry, a popped champagne bottle, an escape map, a police report and even a last will and testament. Atkins spoke of the upcoming exhibition: "I'm so proud and happy to have been invited to show this work at Light House Cinema, my beautiful local cinema. It was a long, cold winter in Zubrowka last year."

Annie Atkins is a graphic designer specialising in the creation of period graphic props and set-pieces for the film and television industry. Originally from rural north Wales, she lived in Iceland for 4 years before moving to Dublin in 2007, which she now considers her home.

The Grand Budapest Hotel opens at Light House Cinema on Friday 7th March 2014. Starring Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody and Tony Revolori.
