Sixth edition. 90 prominent national and international art dealers and galleries will exhibit painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, video, and installation by modern and contemporary artists.

comunicato stampa

From Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13, 2014, 90 prominent national and international art dealers and galleries will exhibit painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, video, and installation by modern and contemporary artists at the sixth annual Dallas Art Fair located in the revitalized downtown Arts District.

Established in 1903, the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) ranks among the leading art institutions in the country and is distinguished by its innovative exhibitions and groundbreaking educational programs. At the heart of the Museum and its programs is its global collection, which encompasses more than 22,000 works and spans 5,000 years of history, representing a full range of world cultures. Located in the vibrant Arts District of downtown Dallas, the Museum welcomes more than half a million visitors annually and acts as a catalyst for community creativity, engaging people of all ages and backgrounds with a diverse spectrum of programming, from exhibitions and lectures to concerts, literary events, and dramatic and dance presentations.
The Dallas Museum of Art is supported in part by the generosity of Museum members and donors, the citizens of Dallas through the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Texas Commission on the Arts.

The Nasher Sculpture Center is home to one of the finest collections of modern and contemporary sculptures in the world, the Raymond and Patsy Nasher Collection, featuring more than 300 masterpieces by Calder, Giacometti, Matisse, Picasso, Rodin and more. Hailed by the “USA Today” as one of the great sculpture gardens where art enhances nature, the roofless museum seamlessly integrates the indoor galleries with the outdoor spaces creating a museum experience unlike any other in the world.

Dallas Contemporary is a non-collecting art museum presenting new and fresh ideas from regional, national and international artists. Modeled after European art centers and located in an industrial building in the Design District, Dallas Contemporary is one of the only institutions of its kind in the United States, offering temporary exhibitions, important lectures and seminal learning programs.

The Dallas Museum of Art presents Never Enough: Recent Acquisitions of Contemporary Art, an exhibition drawn exclusively from the Museum’s strong holdings of contemporary art. On view March 8 through July 20, 2014, in the DMA’s iconic Barrel Vault and surrounding galleries, the exhibition brings together more than 50 works in various media that have entered the DMA’s collection within the past five years. A majority of the works will be on display for the first time since entering the Museum’s collection, including seven new acquisitions made in February of this year. The Dallas Museum of Art has one of the leading collections of contemporary art in any encyclopedic museum in the country.

The Museum’s recent acquisitions of photographic works are a highlight of the exhibition, emphasizing the DMA’s focus on photography as a conceptual tool, and including artists such as Michele Abeles, Will Benedict, Lucas Blalock, Josh Brand, Sara Cwynar, Douglas Huebler and Erin Shirreff. In addition, the DMA will premiere for the first time outside of Asia a body of nine sculptural photographs from 2006 by Yuki Kimura, which represents the largest holding of the Japanese artist’s work outside of her native country.

The Dallas Museum of Art is the only venue outside of Europe to present Nur: Light in Art and Science from the Islamic World, an exhibition of Islamic art and culture exploring the use and meaning of light in Islamic art and science. Spanning more than ten centuries, the exhibition, organized by the Focus-Abengoa Foundation in Seville, Spain, features 150 rarely seen objects from around the world, including rare manuscripts and scientific objects. Deriving its title from the Arabic word for “light” in both the physical and metaphysical sense, Nur highlights innovations in artistic techniques that enhance the effect of light as well as scientific fields that contributed to enlightenment.

Nur: Light in Art and Science from the Islamic World requires an $8.00 special exhibition ticket. However, the show is free of charge for Dallas Art Fair ticket holders. General Admission to the Dallas Museum of Art is FREE.

Nasher Sculpture Center presents the exhibition Sightings: Bettina Pousttchi. For the past 15 years, Bettina Pousttchi has created artworks in a variety of media including photography, video, and sculpture. These works often examine the constructed nature and tenuousness of memory. Two recent projects, Echo (2009-10) at the Temporäre Kunsthalle in Berlin and Framework (2011) at Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, presented photography at the scale of architecture, lending it a sense of monumentality and presence normally associated with large-scale sculpture. In the Spring of 2014, Pousttchi continues her exploration of these issues with a site-specific installation at the Nasher Sculpture Center.

Nasher Sculpture Center is pleased to offer Art Fair guests complimentary admission and a 10% discount at the award winning Nasher store Friday, April 11- Sunday, April 13. Please present your Art Fair ticket or pass at admissions.
