The Meeting. A major new installation. Prouvost combines language and images to construct invented storylines that seduce and disturb. Her characters perform quasi-occult rituals as part of a loose narrative which confronts money and religion, memory and spirituality.
Motinternational Brussels are excited to announce the first solo exhibition of Laure Prouvost in Belgium with The Meeting, a major new installation by the artist.
Prouvost's characters perform quasi-occult rituals as part of a loose narrative which confronts money and religion, memory and spirituality. The artist has invited masked figures into the gallery, who seem to have been interrupted from a very important meeting about the art world and its close link to the market.
Prouvost (b. 1978, Lille) combines language and images to construct invented storylines that seduce and disturb.
In 2013 she was the winner of the Turner Prize, nominated for the exhibition Farfromwords, Whitechapel Gallery, London, which toured to Collezione Maramotti, Reggio Emilia, Italy (both 2013) and her film installation Wantee, as part of Schwitter’s in Britain, Tate Britain, London (2013). In 2014 she had her first US solo exhibition at the New Museum, New York, with upcoming solo exhibitions at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Berlin and Laboratorio Arte Alameda, Mexico City.
