Opening Ceremony Switzerland's most prestigious art awards
Opening Ceremony Switzerland's most prestigious art awards, celebrating its 20th anniversary of being held in Basel. Hosted by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture. The exhibition of the Swiss Art Awards 2014 opens tonight, Monday, 16 June, 6pm, at Hall 4. Out of the 46 artists, 4 architects, and 18 critics and curators selected from 460 entries, the Swiss Art Prize will be awarded to 10 winners at the opening. Expect a wide-ranging and exciting survey of the contemporary Swiss art world, spanning across mediums, formats, and theoretical stances. The first public exhibition of works by recipients of the Swiss Art Awards took place in 1944. The award is thus celebrating an additional anniversary: every year for the past 70 years, the Swiss Confederation has granted the public free access to this survey of contemporary art production in Switzerland by presenting the works of the Competition's participant. Afterparty at Volkshaus Basel with wtF & Florent/M - organized by Swiss Art Awards, Liste Art Fair Basel and Collection Cahiers d'Artistes. Starting 10pm. Free public access.
