NEW YORK, NY - Freedom will be on display as New York's top artists come out to support the New York Bill of Rights Defense Campaign (NYBORDC) in a three week long silent auction and exhibition at The Proposition gallery in New York City. The exhibition gathers many of the country's leading artists, in a show of solidarity for the principals of liberty, freedom, and security in a time of crisis. A private reception (by invitation only) will take place on Saturday, February 7, with a public reception on February 12. The exhibition will run until February 28.

"Open Proposition: Artists for the Bill of Rights" is a celebration of the NYBORDC, a grassroots nonpartisan project of the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) created in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Passed in the name of national security, the USA PATRIOT Act, subsequent presidential directives and FBI regulations have seriously undermined long-standing American freedoms such as the right to privacy, lawful political expression and due process of law.

In response to this assault on our most basic freedoms, artists Stephen Lipman and Tom Schreiber formed The Open Proposition Committee in partnership with the NYCLU. The committee's goals for this exhibition is to raise awareness and funds for the NYBORDC, which is dedicated to ensuring government antiterrorism policies uphold rights and freedoms.
