The Net means the internet and stands for networks. Exhibition
The Net means the internet and stands for networks, such as social networks, both concealed and obvious. And net also means network, the interlinking of domains such as biology, technology, economics and politics. The digital structures of the Net interconnect images, texts and acoustic signals and are in a constant state of flux. The exhibition Nets is presenting art that engages with the idea of webs and networks, by exploring-as we know from the spider-what is woven naturally, diagrammatic structures and the flexible data of the Internet and the many threads linking all these aspects together. The exhibition is devoted to issues we face today and simultaneously addresses a subject that has preoccupied humankind for thousands of years-that of nets and webs as metaphors, which have been explored in the arts in word and image since antiquity. The opening on July 27, 2014 will launch the Tenth International Conference of the Society for Emblem Studies, which will be taking place in Kiel this year at the Kunsthistorisches Institut of the Christian Albrechts-Universitat zu Kiel. Opening 27th July.
