Under the title THE SYMMETRY OF WATER, seven artists from Vienna, Berlin, and Copenhagen come together to explore the phenomenon of the surreal in different manners. It has less to do with a surrealism that explores psychological depths, rather a formal surrealism that deals with the migration of forms. Deep water as a metaphor for the unconscious and the subconscious represents the connecting element between the individual works. The exhibition will bring these artistic positions together through painting, object art, collage, assemblage, and performance, causing a friction through the similarity in the topic on hand – a friction that generates a tension, like René Magritte’s notion of resembling objects and their exchangeable ascriptions.
