How Collective Ingenuity Is Changing The World. The inspirational exhibition and interactive space - which will subsequently be travelling around the world - features a wide-ranging programme of events: the inclusive economy, co-creation, the 'maker' movement, the sharing economy and the circular economy.

WAVE will be on show at Parc de La Villette in Paris from 10 September to 5 October 2014
WAVE is an inspirational exhibition and interactive space, a celebration of Ingenuity 2.0, where a
wide-ranging programme of events will be running throughout the four-week period.
This exhibition, which will subsequently be travelling around the world, is curated by Navi Radjou,
co-author of ‘Jugaad Innovation: Think Frugal, Be Flexible, Generate Breakthrough Growth’, and winner
of the prestigious ‘Thinkers50 Innovation Award’ in 2013.
At a time when the entire planet is facing huge social and environmental challenges, we are seeing
a succession of initiatives from the four corners of the earth which demonstrate that solutions for doing
more with less do actually exist. The common thread of these ideas is collective ingenuity. Being flexible,
aiming for simplicity, taking advantage of circumstances, thinking outside the box. In an unstable world,
the ingenious innovator will develop a mindset that is agile enough to turn constraints into opportunities.
A wave of collective ingenuity is now sweeping the world. WAVE will draw on many examples to explore the major trends (1)
on all the continents: the inclusive economy, co-creation, the ‘maker’ movement, the sharing economy and the circular
economy – involving men and women from all walks of life who share the same values and aspirations and have lots of energy.
Determined to give prominent place to the inventive, creative dimension, WAVE has called on young artists, film-makers
at the Paris-based Gobelins School of the Image, plus photographers and video-makers taking part in the ‘Circulation(s)’
(young European photographers’) Festival to illustrate the trends and the twenty selected examples. The actual Exhibition
will be held in a new pavilion, designed by Sylvain Dubuisson with L’Art en Scènes. In addition, there will be an interactive
game specially designed by MIT’s SENSEable City Lab (2) for WAVE, augmented reality and many other surprise elements
along the way.
WAVE has been designed in collaboration with L’Atelier, the BNP Paribas Group’s subsidary with offices in Paris, San
Francisco, and Shanghai, that tracks the innovation trends and technology needs and uses worldwide.
1)
Location of the WAVE structure from 10/09 to 05/10/2014.
The Inclusive economy: all individuals are stakeholders, including those who are often excluded (the elderly, the disabled, the very poor,
etc.). / Co-creation: all of the participants (individuals, companies, organisations, etc.) cooperate to find solutions that no one would be able to
create alone. / The Maker Movement: everyone has the capacity and the means to create (fab lab, Do It Yourself, 3D printers, etc.). / The
Sharing economy: a rationale of sharing among individuals and/or companies, based on access rather than ownership. / The Circular
Economy: producing and consuming in a sustainable way, avoiding waste and re-using resources as much as possible.

MIT SENSEable City Lab: The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s ‘SENSEable City Lab’ is an interdisciplinary research group of
designers, sociologists, physicians, mathematicians, engineers and other specialists who study interaction between cities, their
inhabitants and the new technologies.
“In a world undergoing profound change, we need to simplify our organisation and our operating model.
Simplify and innovate at the same time. The WAVE exhibition encourages us to think outside the box by
presenting new ways of creating value in constrained environments. It shows that it’s possible to do
better with less.”
Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, Director and CEO of BNP Paribas
“The post-war industrial models – big R&D budgets, hierarchy, etc. – are no longer suited to
the complex world we live in today. We need to draw on human ingenuity in order to build an
innovative and sustainable society.”
Navi Radjou, exhibition curator
