Hollow mannequins, funerary urns, cow manure, autumn ponds, rainbows, soldiers, futuristic industrial landscapes, drawing experiments...
From the Other Side inaugurates SOHO20 Gallery’s move to a new space in Chelsea,
presenting the opportunity to revel in a multiplicity of ideas and media that are gathered
in the newly inhabited location. Hollow mannequins, funerary urns, cow manure,
autumn ponds, rainbows, soldiers, futuristic industrial landscapes, drawing
experiments, and an imaginary encounter between literary figures all invite the viewer
to interpret the artists’ work, not necessarily through a common narrative, but rather by
unraveling the clustered connections in the works’ content. Matters of life and death,
environmental concerns, social commentary as well as formal and conceptual
experiments all comingle in a dynamic mix of new works.
Artists include Elizabeth Bisbing, Darla Bjork, Diane Churchill, Martie Edelheit,
Anne Elliott, Lisa Fischetti, Susan Hockaday, Lucy Hodgson, Eve Ingalls, Shirin
Kazemi, Coeleen Kiebert, Inhye Lee, Desiree Navab, Petra Nimtz, Debbie Rasiel,
Mariangeles Soto-Diaz, Kathy Stark and Ann Young.
SOHO20 Gallery, founded in 1973, is a non-profit, artist-run organization that endorses
and exhibits the work of women artists, helping to bridge the current gender gap
present in commercial galleries. In pursuing these goals, SOHO20 incorporates the
work of underrepresented women artists into the field of contemporary art. For more
