i8 is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Lawrence Weiner. Along the Shore is Weiner’s third exhibition at the gallery. Three large wall works occupy the gallery space along with new works on paper. On this occasion Lawrence Weiner has made a mass-produced fish tub, used for commercial fishing around Iceland. Fifty such tubs will be distributed between fisheries and used in the coming years. Additionally, there are ten numbered and signed editions shown in the gallery.
Lawrence Weiner was born in New York in 1942 and lives and works in New York. Solo exhibitions include Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2013); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Spain (2013); the Jewish Museum, New York (2012); Haus der Kunst, Munich, Germany (2007); Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2007); Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico City (2004); Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Germany (2000) and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1994). He participated in documenta 5, 6, 7, and 13 (1972, 1977, 1982, 2012), the 36th, 41st, 50th and 55th Venice Biennales (1972, 1984, 2003, 2013) and the 27th Biennale de Sao Paulo (2006).
