For his exibithion 'Parallel Entities' the artist will present a complex paper collages composed of drawings, watercolors, embossments, and cut and taped elements.
Greusslich Contemporary is pleased to announce the first solo show by
Vanessa Farfan, whereby she both introduces and exhibits to us her
idiosyncratic sense for - and singular grasp of - the phenomenon of 'city',
which she has developed over the years.
Central to this exhibition are complex paper collages composed of drawings,
watercolors, embossments, and cut and taped elements, which are based on
research conducted in Berlin, Mexico City, and Beijing. And yet, line always
forms a foundation for Farfan's abstract pictorial context. Line also
emerges with a multi dimensional quality in installation works, and can lead
from a brightly colored stroke to a three dimensional mesh to a readable
script; and even to an imagined manifestation. Through architectonic,
geographic, technical and organic layers of lines are formed clusters and
empty spaces, structures and systems, centers and peripheries, networks and
parallel entities.
The exhibition of the visual end results will be completed with a spatially
gripping, laboratory-like composition by which one may discover Farfan's
encounters with the city, such as, for example, artistic measurements of
space and time. Accompanying the exhibition, two large print editions will
be introduced, both of which were produced during Farfan's recent residency
in Beijing.
Vanessa Farfan (*1977, Mexico City) lives and works in Berlin. After
numerous travel residencies and exhibitions locally and abroad, she is the
recipient of the three year award: "Miembro del Sistema Nacional de
Creadores de Arte (SNCA), México D.F.", is currently a graduate student of
the Kunsthochschule Weissensee, and has recently returned from a two month
residency in printmaking at the Xu Yuan Center in Beijing.
