415/514: Photographs. 'The idea of landscape as uncharted territory no longer exists. Belonging to a long and rich history, a landscape is a cultural imprint, revealing various sensorial states and manifestations. Central to my work is a poetics of the natural world, as it relates to the fabric of the body, to experience, to time. Here I photograph the landscapes of Quebec and California – interested in pairs of images that speak, personally, to the question of 'home'.' Amanda Marchand

"The idea of landscape as uncharted territory no longer exists. Belonging to a long and rich history, a landscape is a cultural imprint, revealing various sensorial states and manifestations.
Central to my work is a poetics of the natural world, as it relates to the fabric of the body, to experience, to time. Here I photograph the landscapes of Quebec and California – interested in pairs of images that speak, personally, to the question of 'home'. I am drawn to the idea that the horizon does not exist in nature per se, but is purely a visual construct. This work begins with an interest in horizon lines, the strange fact that what you are seeing, in terms of composition, is not physically there. The series carries forth with its own specific and formal syntax, employing dissonances and resonances as brute or poetic logic."
