Drawing Double Reversal. The first large-scale museum exhibition featuring graphic work of the American artist Sturtevant (1924-2014). The early drawings of the 1960s are the key to understanding her rigorously conceptual oeuvre.
The MMK presents the first large-scale museum exhibition featuring drawing oeuvre of the American artist Sturtevant (1924–2014).
The exhibition, which will travel to the Albertina in Vienna and the Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin in 2015, permits a focus on her graphic work of five decades: This includes 80 drawings never before placed on view to the public. The intensive research and examination of her graphic work confirmed that the early drawings of the 1960s are the key to understanding her rigorously conceptual oeuvre.
For fifty years, Sturtevant has been producing what is perhaps the most radical oeuvre of her generation, dominated by an insistent conceptual approach. She confounds and provokes the art viewer and the art world alike by replicating original works by contemporary artists.
