Three exhibitions

Musee d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean - Mudam, Luxembourg

Conceived as a fun route through a selection of pieces from the collection, "Art & Me" emphasizes the viewer and his or her role. The drawings of Rui Moreira combine geometric and abstract decorative motifs with mythical figures. For the exhibition of Sylvie Blocher the museum is transformed into a film studio in which visitors who wish may leave the ground for a few minutes to "rethink the world".

Aiming to encourage a plurality of viewpoints on contemporary production, Mudam constantly rejigs the presentation of the artworks in its collection with new themes and concepts. A gallery of the museum will thus be devoted to an exhibition devised by the Mudam communication department, taking the (old or young) visitor's relationship with the art as a starting point. Conceived as a fun route through a selection of pieces from the collection, the exhibition emphasizes the viewer and his or her role in the museum and, at the same time, attempts to challenge some clichés about contemporary art and those who view it.

For the occasion, the Mudam Studio by Tobias Putrih will be entirely displayed and will receive visitors and artworks for a programme of meetings and activities.

Rui Moreira
I am a lost giant in a burnt forest

Curator Clément Minighetti

Fed by various sources including Caretos Portuguese rituals, sky charts and trips made in parts of the world such as India and the Sahara, the drawings of the Portuguese artist Rui Moreira combine geometric and abstract decorative motifs with figures evoking mythical figures and deities. They are “inner landscapes” in which the repetition of simple gestures and “internal and external movements and rhythms” lends the work a physical dimension.

“By using my body as an instrument, I expose myself to very different atmospheres, landscapes, temperatures and sensations that can dramatically change my perception and enrich the drawing.”

Sylvie Blocher
S'inventer autrement

Curator Enrico Lunghi

For the past few decades the French artist Sylvie Blocher developed a body of video work addressing themes such as the construction of identity, self- or collective expression and the porous boundaries between masculine and feminine. Her works often involve the participation of outsiders invited to speak or to act in front of the camera to create what she calls “Living Pictures”.

Filling the Grand Hall of the museum and all areas of the rez-de-jardin, this solo exhibition will revolve around an ambitious project. During the first weeks, the Grand Hall of the museum will be transformed into a film studio in which visitors who wish may leave the ground for a few minutes to “rethink the world”. Feeding a video installation, the images produced will also be the starting point for a film made in collaboration with Luxembourg film director Donato Rotunno.

The exhibition S'inventer autrement at Mudam Luxembourg is organized a collaboration between with the Centre Régional d'Art Contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon, with the support of the Institut français du Luxembourg. The project Dreams Have a Language that will be presented in the exhibition is produced in collaboration with Tarantula Luxembourg, with the participation of the Fonds national de soutien à la production audiovisuelle of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
