Un progetto site specific in cui l'artista italiano Matteo Rubbi e il marocchino Yassine Balbzioui si incontrano prima a Rabat e poi in Sardegna. Mostra e residenza organizzata con il supporto di DE.MO. / Movin'Up.

Per la seconda edizione di “curators zone” Le Cube – independent art room di Rabat invita l’associazione spagnola La Companya in partenariato con Cherimus, a realizzare il progetto “Côte à Côte”, che si svolgerà durante una residenza dal 1 al 22 dicembre 2014, con una mostra che verrà inaugurata il 20 novembre.
“Côte à Côte” è un progetto site specific in cui l’artista italiano Matteo Rubbi e l’artista marocchino Yassine Balbzioui si incontreranno dapprima a Rabat e in seguito in Sardegna, a Perdaxius.
Il progetto vuole partire dall’osservazione del cielo come luogo ideale dove la costa araba tocca la costa europea (Côte à Côte, appunto) e dove poter innescare un dialogo tra le due culture attraverso l’arte.
Il cielo è infatti un perfetto esempio di scambio culturale tra linguaggi diversi ed epoche diverse, luogo di incontro pacifico tra mondo arabo e occidentale, tra i due emisferi del Mediterraneo.
Le “due coste” di questo progetto sono i due cieli notturni, quello di Rabat, una grande città tra mare e deserto e quello di Perdaxius, un paesino della Sardegna dove il cielo notturno ancora resiste, non è mai scomparso. Côte à Côte vuole cominciare da ciò che quasi inspiegabilmente questi due luoghi hanno in comune.
Il progetto ruota intorno alla collaborazione tra Yassine Balbzioui (Marocco) e Matteo Rubbi (Italia), i quali collaboreranno in un periodo di residenza di tre settimane presso Le Cube, Independent Art Room di Rabat. L’altro polo del progetto è in Sardegna, dove nel 2015 verrà organizzata una seconda residenza.
Gli artisti trascorreranno tre intense settimane di lavoro durante le quali avranno modo di conoscersi e di mettere in discussione la propria pratica artistica anche attraverso l’incontro con le comunità e le realtà artigianali ed economiche presenti nel territorio.

Since 2013 Le Cube - independent art room aims to highlight the curatorial practice by inviting curators bringing new visions and dimensions to Le Cube. The selected curator has "carte blanche" to install a temporary project, the result of a process of reflection during a residence period at Le Cube.
For the second edition of “curator’s zone” Susana Moliner, member of La Companyia, a group of Spanish curators, in partnership with the Italian Association Cherimus organizes the project ""Côte à Côte" during her stay in Rabat from November 1 to December 22, 2014 with the opening of an exhibition on November 20.
"Côte à Côte" is a collaboration project in situ realized by the Italian artist Matteo Rubbi and the Moroccan artist Yassine Balbzioui. The first phase will take place in Rabat, afterwards in Perdaxius, Sardinia, where the artists will deal with the social and subjective process that unfolds between these southern coastal cities.
For their research the sky becomes the basis of reflection for Yassine Balbzioui and Matteo Rubbi. The common space between the hemispheres of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The night sky as a physical place where the two "coasts" can encounter, where it is possible to start a dialogue between the artists and the two communities that will be involved in the project. Both night skies: the one of Rabat and the one of Perdaxius. The first belongs to a big city, between the mountains and the desert; the second is located at the coast of Sardinia, where the night sky is still resisting without ever missing.
In this unexplained common heritage Yassine Balbzioui and Matteo Rubbi will try to understand the areas where life is happening, breathing, the spaces where the daily life escapes the pure and rigid identity lines. Encountering the "côtes" (coasts) that regulate as well as the "côtes" that conduce to breathe, to be lived.
