New and visually provocative series of photographic images. 'Motherhood': a moment of metamorphosis - fantastical and mutative rather than natural. Continuing in her tradition of theatrically staged photographs, 'What I haven't told you' explores the notion of phantom presences, sensed but not seen.
Toronto based artist Janieta Eyre once again presents us with a new and visually provocative series of photographic images. This show combines works from Eyre's two most recent bodies of works, ''Motherhood'', and ''What I Haven't Told You''. A witches' brew of babies, animal parts and monsters, ''Motherhood'' is the Human Genome Project in diabolical hands. In Eyre's provocative new photos, motherhood is a moment of metamorphosis - fantastical and mutative rather than natural. Continuing in her tradition of theatrically staged photographs, ''What I haven't told you'' explores the notion of phantom presences, sensed but not seen.
This past year has been a remarkable one for Eyre. Her past 12 months of exhibiting includes exhibitions at International Centre for Photography in New York, Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography in Ottawa, the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Villa Croce in Genova and the New Langton Arts in San Francisco.
She has exhibited widely in Italy, Germany, Iceland, the United States, across Canada and has recently been invited participant in the Kwanju Biennale in South Korea. Eyre has also been featured in several recent publications including HIVE, Collezione Edge and Faking Death.
