ZERO... is pleased to present Casalingo, the first exhibition of Gavin Kenyon at the gallery.
The artist’s research is characterized by a continuous experimentation with materials, through the creation of sculptures that refer to traditional objects and architectural elements, while maintaining a sensitivity towards more organic forms.
For the exhibition Kenyon recreates within the space a domestic environment, in which works of a different nature dialogue with each other.
Realized with an approach that freely combines control and chance and that investigates how materials behave under situations of stress and constriction, the sculptures Fallen Hero and Untitled have an anthropomorphous, almost human connotation, and seem to exist in a continuous tension between apparently opposite concepts such as attraction and repulsion, feminine and masculine, figuration and abstraction.
Next to them, the artist presents a series of new pieces where the traditional American quilt block design “Gentlemen’s Fancy” is regularly repeated on the surfaces. This new group of works complete and complement the two figures, suggesting different possible states of being, from action, to contemplation, to repose.
