comunicato stampa

On Tuesday, 20 January at 7 pm you are kindly invited to the opening of the solo exhibition Made In... by Alexandra Polina, an artist and photographer who lives and works in Germany and who deals with the phenomena of migration and changes in a social milieu.

Alexandra Polina is an artist and photographer from Uzbekistan who lives and works in Germany. She is a recipient of the first prize at the international competition Evening Projections which took place in frames of the Photonic Moments – Month of Photography 2014 festival in Ljubljana. The jury awarded her recent series of photographs Generation 60. However, her exhibition Made in... displays somewhat broader set of her works. Through predominantly staged photographs Polina focuses on effects of tectonic socio-political changes in the former Soviet Union and on the phenomena of migration pointing out difficulties that migrants are dealing with in their new environment. Through formally and aesthetically thought-through and occasionally clinic portraits of migrants who moved from their country of origin for various reasons, provides a reflection of current social climate and collective memory which is still present.

Alexandra Polina (1984) graduated from journalism at the National University of Uzbekistan, Tashkent and from Art and Design at the University of Applied Science, Bielefeld where she is currently finishing her MA. She lives and works in Bielefeld, Germany.
