The exhibition is the first in a series of three in which the three artists combine their work with each other. Nicolas Chardon, Jan Kammerling and Jan van der Ploeg often crossed paths in their professional practice as an artist, but never shown their work together before.
On Sunday, January 25th PS opens the exhibition Nicolas Chardon - Jan Kämmerling - Jan van
der Ploeg. The exhibition is the first in a series of three in which the three artists combine their
work with each other. The following two exhibitions will take place in France and Germany - the
countries of origin of Nicolas Chardon and Jan Kämmerling. In PS a wall object, a mobile and
a painting will be shown.
One of the goals of PS is to provide a platform and space for the work of upcoming (inter)national artists
and offer the possibility of encouters and international exchanges. With the series of three exhibitions
in the Netherlands, France and Germany the three artist create connections and a oppurtunities for
meetings between the three locations and their networks.
Nicolas Chardon, Jan Kämmerling and Jan van der Ploeg often crossed paths in their professional
practice as an artist, but never shown their work together before. Mutual interest in each other’s work
is the basis of this series of exhibitions. In this painting is the common denominator. With this however
not everything is said. Visually there are more similarities to discover between the various works.
For
instance, they share a love for the purity of color, geometric abstraction and a perfection of the surface.
Despite the completely abstract motifs, in form and materiality a playfulness and subjective expression
comes through in their work. And below the surface of the three works other principles and motivations
dominate, which has led to the three distinct works.
The balancing act between the similarities and differences in the visual aesthetic surface and the deeper
content and artistic motives makes this an extraordinary and inspiring exhibition.
