Collision 11

Parisian Laundry, Montreal

The 11th edition of Collision features works on paper, sculpture, video, installation, an ongoing performance and touches on varying issues such as the ubiquity of social media technologies.

comunicato stampa

For the last ten years, Parisian Laundry has been proud to host graduating MFA students from Concordia University and l'Université du Québec à Montréal. Students are invited to submit thesis projects for a unique and curated group show. Past participants include the likes of Canada's most exciting emerging artists such as Charles Stankievech, Étienne Tremblay-Tardif, Patrick Lundeen as well as Steve Bates, and Julie Trudel, amongst countless others.

The 11th edition of Collision features works on paper, sculpture, video, installation, an ongoing performance and touches on varying issues such as the ubiquity of social media technologies, the relevance of institutional critique and new strategies for spatial intervention and bodily activation.

This year's projects offer not only points of contact and intersection with one another, but as well with broader concerns characteristic of the current cultural climate. What types of relationships are initiated with the self and with others in an age of images and information? Can the significance of a critical position ever be exhausted under increased cynicism? In which ways can immersive installation and spontaneous performance continue to affect viewership and the experience of inhabiting space? These are some of the questions approached in Collision 11 and left dynamically open-ended for the reflection of visitors.
