Merrill Lynch Presents 2nd Annual arteaméricas

International Fine Art Showcase and Conference Draws More Than
187 Artists From 17 Latin American Countries

For the second year, Merrill Lynch (NYSE: MER) is proud to present arteaméricas, an exhibition featuring more than 187 renowned and up and coming Latin American artists from fifty of the most prestigious Latin American art galleries. The event, which will be held March 26 - 29, 2004 at the Coconut Grove Convention Center in Miami, Florida, will feature art from 17 countries across Latin America.
“arteaméricas is the first art fair specializing in art from Latin America,” said Brian Sepe, Managing Director for Merrill Lynch Miami Americas. “The interest and energy created by last year’s event has continued to swell in the Miami, U.S. and Latin American communities. This is an art event of premiere importance that our entire Miami Merrill Lynch family can point to with great pride and appreciation.”
The exhibition will include paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations and videos from great masters and young artists and will include a section dedicated to contemporary art trends.
Art collectors and experts will be guest speakers at Latin American art conferences taking place during the exhibit. The international event takes on a community feel with the participation of local groups such as the neighborhood bookstore Books & Books which will be on-site to feature a large selection of art books.
“We have selected and invited the best Latin American art galleries and art experts from some of the finest Universities in the continent to create a prestigious art critic panel,” said Mario Paredes, Director of Hispanic Business Development for Merrill Lynch. “The quality of work presented will be a great treat for collectors and lovers of fine art.”
Merrill Lynch arteaméricas is a signature event commissioned by Merrill Lynch with the co-sponsorship of American Airlines, FedEx, Bacardi, The Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald, Arte al Día, Selecta Magazine, Glamour en Español, and Architectural Digest en Español. The exhibit will be open to the public on March 26 and 27 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., on March 28 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on March 29 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Merrill Lynch arteaméricas, the art fair devoted exclusively to art from Latin America, exceeded all expectations with outstanding exhibits, a diverse audience, and good sales at its premier edition, in 2003. Returning for its second edition, arteaméricas debuts March 26 through March 29, 2004, at the Coconut Grove Convention Center, Miami, Fla, bringing the best of art from Latin America.

This year, Merrill Lynch arteaméricas features 51 leading galleries from 17 countries in Latin America, the United States, Canada, Spain, and Italy. The galleries, curated by a selection committee of art experts, will exhibit works from 187 renowned masters and emerging talents.

“We were overwhelmed by the fair’s initial success and we have clearly answered a demand from the emerging arts scene of Miami. With the genesis of arteaméricas, Miami is transforming itself into the art capital of the Americas.” said Leslie Pantín, President, arteaméricas.

“The breadth and depth of art showcased at arteaméricas confirms the fact that Miami has become the premier “gallery” of the Americas,” said Emilio Calleja, Vice President, arteaméricas.

The exhibition will include paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations and videos, and will also feature a section dedicated to contemporary art trends -- Ephemeral Trends II. Art collectors and art experts will be guest speakers at conferences on Latin American art, among other events scheduled during the art show.

Long-established galleries such as Mary-Ann Martin Fine Arts and Nohra Haime from New York will exhibit, along with famous Coral Gables galleries like Cernuda Arte and-up-and coming galleries from Miami’s Design District, such as Marina Kessler Gallery. Galleries from every major city in Latin America are present as well, including, Galeria Ramis Barquet, Monterrey and New York; Galeria El Museo, Bogota; Jacob Karpio Galeria, San Jose; and Praxis Arte Internacional, Buenos Aires. A jewel from the Caribbean is also present: Galeria Lyle O. Reitzel from Santo Domingo.

Additionally, the most important museums that specialize in Latin American art are present, among them, The Museum of Fine Art, Houston; Museo del Barrio, New York; Miami Art Museum, Miami. Important art foundations that work for the promotion of Latin American art, such as, Fundacion Cisneros, Caracas; Fundacion Proa, Buenos Aires and MAC – Miami Art Central, will also be there.

Visitors can also explore an ample variety of published art work books offered by the Miami-based, nationally known bookstore, Books & Books. The attractive fair catalogue will also be available for sale.

Saturday, March 27 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday, March 28 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Monday, March 29 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
