BMO Harris Bank Chicago works. An installation of works along with inviting long-time collaborators and new associations to participate in events and performances
Faheem Majeed is a builder, literally and metaphorically, and a resident of the South Shore, who looks to the materials found in his neighborhood as an entry point into larger questions of civic mindedness, community activism, and issues of institutional racism, while mining the rich socio-political and cultural history of the community there. His studio practice is immersed in the exploration of simple sculptural materials that are worked over and transformed, that relate to his personal experiences and immediate environs. His artist's practice involves a variety of different strategies, from wood and metalworking, casting and fabrication, to arts administration, curation, and community facilitation. For his first solo museum exhibition, Majeed presents an installation of works along with inviting long-time collaborators and new associations to participate in events and performances. The exhibition builds upon itself in this way, presenting different materials and experiences throughout which invites visitors to take part. Organized by MCA Curatorial Assistant Steven L. Bridges.
