Im Garten II
We are pleased to announce the solo exhibition Im Garten II of Heidi Specker
featuring the latest group of photographs by the Berlin based artist.
The series Im Garten II develops a city portrait which consists of a
combination of various elements: fragments of buildings, window views,
fassades, which remind one of Specker¹s earlier series Teilchentheorie and
Speckergruppen. Those elements are contasted by organic imagery such as
trees and hedges.
This broader approach within Heidi Specker¹s oeuvre coincides with the
introduction of more narrative aspects of the pictorial language. The
windows appear eyelike in the faces of the building fassades. They seam to
communicate in a dialogue with the structures of the tree barch in which one
discovers reveries of expressions of faces as well.
Heidi Specker pursues structures of perception and constructs systems which
analyse the gaze. Specker¹s camera scans the structure of surfaces: she
scans the city. The fragmented images which Specker creates are being
composed into wall filling, filmic sequences, with animated cuts and
close-ups. It is a visualisation which hints at the narrative of a walk
through the city. A seamingly universal order appears within the urban
entropie. Whereas earlier works were dominantely defined by graphic patterns
and surfaces, the new series displays an increasingly important role of
colour and especially light which sculpts the pictorial space. The images
become more and more atmospherically loaded.
