Dall' 11 aprile la Galleria Carla Sozzani presenta Hanging Garden la nuova installazione ambientale di Kris Ruhs.
Un giardino sospeso di fiori di porcellana e foglie di fili di ottone leggerissimi piegati a mano con cui Kris Ruhs prosegue la sua ricerca al di là delle vie tradizionali della pittura e della scultura in una continua sollecitazione visiva. In Hanging Garden la fragilità apparente dei fiori di filo metallico e delle piante di ceramica crea un equilibrio sottile tra la delicatezza della visione e la forza della materia e della natura stessa.

Ruhs costruisce una foresta inedita di forme e materia, quasi un richiamo a una natura ossessiva e magnifica. Questo lavoro riflette l' attenzione costante di Ruhs per la natura, la sua bellezza e le forze primarie che la governano. Come è solito dire: «nulla può battere la natura».

Manualità, ispirazione a forme e colori della natura e materie primarie sono caratteristiche essenziali della ricerca di Kris Ruhs. Le sue istallazioni sono spesso riconoscibili per l'uso dei colori della terra, per i disegni fluidi e per le forme sinuose e leggere.
Aspetto sostanziale nel linguaggio di Kris Ruhs è l'attenzione per la materia. Il lavoro artigianale della sua ricerca coinvolge elementi primari – il fuoco, la terra, l'acqua, il ferro, l' aria e la luce – permette a Ruhs di utilizzare con maestria qualsiasi tecnica per adattarla al proprio processo creativo.

L'approccio di Kris Ruhs fa sì che le idee circolino libere e si trasformino senza sforzo apparente, quasi per gioco, in una riflessione costante sulla natura e sullo spazio. Disegni, progetti, materiali di recupero, modelli e prototipi costruiscono passo dopo passo il suo fare: «non parto mai dai disegni» dice Ruhs. «gli oggetti si formano mentre lavoro».

Artista, scultore e designer, Kris Ruhs nasce nel 1952 a New York da una famiglia di origine tedesca e studia alla School of Visual Arts. Dal 1996 ad oggi vive fra l’ Italia, la Francia e il Marocco. Dal 1980, partecipa a mostre personali e collettive presso importanti gallerie americane, dalla Richard Green Gallery di Los Angeles (1988), alla Wapping Idraulic Station di Londra (2012), alle mostre personali alla Galleria Carla Sozzani, ultima New Series (2015).

Hanging Garden
On April 11th Galleria Carla Sozzani presents Hanging Garden, the new environmental installation by Kris Ruhs. Hanging Garden is a collection of porcelain blooms and hand forged brass vines that captures the visual cacophony of a spring garden.
One of the hallmarks of this artist’s work has been his insistence that we see the presence of his materials. Fire and earth, water and iron, air and light are all apparent. But here, the delicate nature of the subject, a riot of flowers and vines, creates a subtle balance in visual delicacy between the elemental presence of his materials and the apparent fragility of these porcelain shapes and tangle of vines that express the ephemeral magnificence of nature.

On an environmental note, an area of concern for Ruhs, the beauty of the whole installation references the planet itself. Primal, elemental, and ephemeral.
As Ruhs has always said, “Nothing can beat nature”. Shapes and colors of nature and primary materials are essential characteristics in the search for Kris Ruhs. His installations are often identifiable by the use of the colors of the earth, for the drawings and fluidity of the sinuous forms he creates. The focus of Kris Ruhs' language resides through his expression in matter. The craftsmanship of his research involves the primary elements of fire, earth, water, iron, air, and light which are constant references in this work, as also seen in previous works.

This ability to establish a dialogue with the materials (glass, ceramics, pottery, iron, cot- ten, wood), allows Ruhs to adapt any matter to fulfill his creative process with a high degree of technical expertise, including a direct expression of elemental nature.
Ideas circulate freely and apparently effortlessly, in a constant reflection on nature and the space it occupies. Drawings, designs, recycled, models and prototypes are built step by step "for phisycal objects, I never start from sketches," says Ruhs. "They are formed while working."

Artist, sculptor and designer, Kris Ruhs was born in 1952 in New York to a family of German origin and studied at the School of Visual Arts. Since 1996 his time has been divided between his studios in Italy, France, and Morocco. His work has been seen at Tower Gallery, New York and South Hampton; Richard Green Gallery, Los Angeles; Artwear, New York; Wapping Hydraulic Station, London. He is represented by Galleria Carla Sozzani.
